New Release 1.8.200.0 and SaneSecurity Updates.

We are pleased to announce that Sanesecurity Signatures are back online at http://www.sanesecurity.com/ and is now distributed via Rsync. Sanesecurity signatures are produced by Steve Basford and have been found to be extremely effective at removing spam. Similiar commercial signature subscriptions would have cost at least a few hundred dollars a year (most likely more than what MxScanPro is priced at).

I would like to ask that if the situation permits and you have found the Signatures usefull, that you consider a donation or perhaps something off his Amazon wish list at http://www.sanesecurity.com/donate.htm as a way to show your support. (ps: If you do make a donation do let him know that you are MxUptime user)

MxScan Professional for MailEnable 1.8.200.0 is now available for download at http://www.mxuptime.com/login.aspx and has been updated to include the new Sane Signatures and distribution mechanism via Rsync. With this new release, there are also other enhancements and fixes as detailed in the ReleaseNotes

Thank you
-MxUptime Team

SaneSecurity Updates

Please find below the latest update regarding the continuity of the SaneSecurity Signatures.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi All,

First of all thank you to subscribing to the announce list and for the messages of support.

The current situation is that a couple of people have offered to help setup an rsync system, round-robin dns system and also ip banning, using firewall tables when users try to rsync more that x times per time-frame, which should help greatly.

I'll be getting in touch with them and sort out a rough plan of action... but this might take a bit of time though.

The signatures are still being updated for my personal use, so hopefully if things can be sorted out, they'll be pretty much up-to-date.

For those that wanted it...I've already sorted out a PayPal/Credit card donate button, so if things do work out, it'll be put on the site.

And obviously other mirrors would be welcome to join the round-robin dns system, once the mirror system have been sorted out, of course.

Happy New Year to you all,

Steve

ClamAV Sosdg

We have just received note that Brielle (from SOSDG) has decided to continue producing the Cygwin Builds of ClamAV. We are however, as of Version 1.7.120 onwards using the native Win32 build of ClamAV and it will stay this way for the time being.

Subject: [clamav-announce] ClamAV/SOSDG 0.94.2-1 Update

Hello All,

Well, I know I told alot of you I'd not be building another version of ClamAV/SOSDG again... But, I've got some good news - I managed to get builds working again, and my development environment is functional.

I've gone ahead and build v0.94.2-1, which is considered beta. This is not considered stable as I've not had time to really test it (my primary platform is MacOS X now).

Mxuptime.com Server Migration

In line for an introduction of new integrated Mxuptime Services (coming soon) we have migrated our main site to a brand new server located in Seattle and hosted under SoftLayer's Network. So far we've been pretty impressed with the services provided by SoftLayer. Their web based managed portal is equally impressive.

The current peering and backbone connections are as follows

Comcast Peering - 10G
Internap 1 - 10G
Internap 2 - 10G
Level3 - 10G
Qwest - 10G
SIX Peering - 10G
Verio/NTT - 10G

ps: If you do come across any discrepancies or issues with the new server please let us know.

Thanks
-Mxuptime Team

SaneSecurity Updates

As of Dec 14, 2008 Steve from SaneSecurity.com has announced that he will stop updating his signatures due to personal reasons and a Ddos attack. As such we are recommending that MxScan Professional users disable their SaneSecurity Updates by setting the Update Interval under the Sanesecurity tab to O(zero).

We have also placed online the most recent copy of their signatures which you can download and replace at C:\Program Files\MxUptime\MxScanME\clam\share\clamav \*.ndb

The 2 files can be download from here at http://www.mxuptime.com/SaneLatest.zip

We would like to thank Steve for his contribution towards the Online AntiSpam community for his great work and hope to see him back again next year.

In the next build of MxScan the Sanesecurity Update Interval will be automatically disabled. The Sanesecurity module will still be available and the current signatures will still be usefull, however over time its effectiveness will decline as new spam patterns emerge.

We are looking at several options and will provide an update when available on the next course of action
